ROOFTOP GUARDRAILS

Collective protection, such as rooftop handrails and edge protection guardrails, is the preferred solution when people need to access a roof regularly.

This is because they ensure that anyone going onto or working on the roof is always safe without needing specialist training.

FREESTANDING EDGE PROTECTION

Cantilevered guardrail systems are the most popular form of edge protection because they don’t need to be fixed to the roof or its membrane. This overcomes the potential for costly leaks or damage to the surface.

Systems can be quickly and easily installed and are suitable for virtually any configuration of flat roof with a pitch up to 10°.

Our collective freestanding guardrail solutions include standard vertical, raked, and radiused systems. We can also install a collapsible system that folds down. This protects the building’s aesthetics when fall protection is not needed.

THE BEST SOLUTION FOR YOUR REQUIREMENTS

Not sure what solution you need? Our team of qualified engineers will conduct a site survey or work to your drawings/specifications. They’ll then advise you on the best solution for your requirements and budget.

If freestanding is not suitable for your roof, we can provide top fix guardrails for metal roofs. And if space is an issue, we have systems that can fix to the top of a parapet or side of the building.

Our range of freestanding and fixed guardrails are tested to UK and EU safety standards, including:

Frequently Asked Questions

Guardrails can be used around roof perimeters, access points, rooflights and other areas where there is a risk of falling. The system should be designed around the specific roof and its hazards.
Freestanding edge protection, or guardrail systems, have counterweight bases that overcome the need to penetrate the roof, which can cause damage. Fixed, as the name suggests, bolt directly into the building’s structure.
Guardrails are durable systems, but components can still corrode over time, fixings and connectors can work loose, or the roof layout could change, which means the guardrail no longer provides the protection it was designed to. Inspect guardrails at least every 12 months. But if your building is in a harsh environment, such as by the coast, inspections should be more frequent.
We don’t recommend removing your guardrail, as these systems are not designed for repeated dismantling. If you want collective edge protection that can’t be seen from the ground, we can install a collapsible guardrail which folds down out of sight when not in use.
Edge protection systems can be installed on virtually any common roof type, including flat, sloped, metal profile and standing seam roofs, as well as parapet roofs. Height of Safety can design and install solutions for different roof structures and layouts.
